I tried the Amazon cordless vacuum cleaner people say is 'better than Dyson' - and it's a fraction of the price - Birmingham Live

The Proscenic i10 is currently on sale on Amazon and it’s had mostly five star reviews

Vacuum cleaners are notoriously expensive these days, with top of the range Dyson and Shark ones costing up to £700. With the cost of living crisis at an all time high, and vacuum cleaners being a necessity rather than a luxury, very few can still afford those prices.

Unfortunately it often then comes to a toss up between price and quality. Cheap vacuum cleaners have a tendency to skim surfaces rather than pick up dirt.

I have just moved and a few weeks in, I was in desperate need of a vacuum cleaner. I had a shop around online, comparing benefits and pricings, until I came across one with hundreds of reviews claiming it is ‘actually better than Dyson’.

The Proscenic i10 Cordless Vacuum Cleaner is sold on Amazon , and sitting at £139 it’s pretty affordable compared to similar products on the market. On first impressions, its body and functions are the spitting image of the Shark Cordless Stick Vacuum Cleaner , priced at £299 on Amazon.

I hoped the hundreds of five star reviews were telling the truth, and that I’d just bagged myself a comparable vacuum cleaner for £160 cheaper than the Shark equivalent. One in particular said: “I have had several cordless vacuums and used Dyson and Shark. This is by far the best and a fraction of the price, lightweight and powerful.”

The description of the Proscenic Vacuum Cleaner says all the right things, claiming to have a 50 minute run time, vboost technology, a 350W motor, three adjustable modes, a removable battery and an LED touch display. The vboost technology means the vacuum cleaner automatically detects whether it is on hard floor or carpet and will change the suction accordingly.

Inside the Proscenic i10 packaging, you get the vacuum cleaner, an extension hose, a hose with a spout, a fabric brush, the charger and a wall holder. The design is a modern metallic blue on an elegant vacuum body, that won’t look clunky if it cannot be put away.

I’ve previously had the Dyson’s V8 Animal Vacuum Cleaner and Shark’s Cordless Upright Vacuum , so I’m well versed in the world of luxury vacuum cleaners. The Proscenic i10 looks the part, but how did it perform?

Straightaway I was amazed with how easy it was to set up, and it had also arrived with a fully charged battery. My flat had a good few weeks of buildup of hair, dust, and general dirt from the outside.

There is only so much you can pick up by sweeping, but incredibly it was no barrier for the Proscenic i10 . It left my flat spotless.

I have previously found the Dyson and Shark can get clogged easily resulting in not picking everything up. After a few weeks of use now, I am yet to find anything the Proscenic cannot pick up, and side by side with the bigger brands, I really do not see a difference.

However I have yet to use it on anything really trying, like fabric or cars. The motor is lower than the average cordless vacuum, justifying the cheaper price tag, so bear this in mind.

A 50 minute run time is perfectly adequate for my small flat, it means I can get plenty of vacuums in before needing to charge the battery. However I imagine it will be a little short for those with bigger houses, bearing in mind carpets use more suction and beat down the battery life - I’m working with mostly hard floors.

Dyson and Shark are both offering nearer two hours of battery life on their more expensive models.

The Proscenic i10 is one of the lightest vacuum cleaners I have used and I figured it out without even using the instructions. It also doubles as a handheld vacuum.

The LED touch screen in particular makes everything much easier.

All in all, considering the Proscenic i10 Cordless Vacuum Cleaner is around £200 cheaper than its equivalents, I think it is excellent value for money. Unless you have a big house, lots of kids and lots of animals, I really don’t think you need to spend the excess.

The only thing I think the vacuum cleaner is missing compared to other similar options is anti hair-wrap technology. Shark hoovers have this, and it’s incredibly useful.

Instead, I have found myself having to cut hair from the bottom of the suction every couple of uses. However, for the price difference there are a couple of sacrifices you have to make and it’s a very small niggle.

All in all I think Proscenic has nailed it with the i10 Cordless Vacuum Cleaner , and I’m a convert. I’m just glad I invested before the weather gets any worse.

It’s currently on sale for £139.99 on Amazon
