Amazon Prime Day is returning in July 2022. There's a lot that remains a mystery about this year's shopping event (including the exact dates and the items that will be on sale), but we are almost certain that there will be major Prime Day discounts on vacuum cleaners.

According to Jessica Teich, deputy editor at the Good Housekeeping Institute, we should expect to see huge savings on upright vacuums, stick vacuums, robot vacuums and vacuums for pet hair from brands like Bissel, Shark, Dyson and iRobot. As a matter of fact, the Good Housekeeping Institute's favorite vacuum from it's best vacuum cleaners of 2022 product test — the Shark Apex Upright Vacuum Cleaner — is available on Amazon and on sale right now for 16% off. We're hoping to see that one discounted even further once Prime Day rolls around.

Ahead of Prime Day, we rounded up more of our favorite vacuums that are on sale on Amazon right now. Below, we answer some of our readers' most frequently asked questions about Amazon Prime Day, including all the logistical details we know (so far!), how to get a free Amazon Prime membership, and of course, we speculate on what will be the best Prime Day deals of 2022.

“Yes, Prime Day is a great time to buy a vacuum!," says Jessica Teich, deputy editor at the Good Housekeeping Institute. "While we don’t know what will be on sale for Prime Day 2022 quite yet, historically we’ve seen giant savings on upright and stick vacuums from Bissell, Shark and even Dyson, plus great deals on robot vacuums from Eufy, Roborock and iRobot Roombas during Prime Day with savings over 40% off in 2021 and over 50% in 2020.”

Amazon Prime Day is a sales event that started in 2015 to commemorate the Amazon's 20th anniversary. Since then, the event has reliably been Amazon's biggest sale of the year, with major discounts across all product categories.

Prime Day will take place sometime in July this year according to an Amazon press release, which also revealed Prime Day will be extended to 20 countries this year. While the official Prime Day 2022 dates are still under wraps, we are predicting that it will be a two-day event, as it has in recent years. Amazon only hosts one Prime Day event per calendar year, so be sure to stay tuned for those July dates.

Prime Day discounts are only shoppable for Amazon Prime subscribers. An Amazon Prime membership costs $14.99 per month or $139 per year (there are some discounts for students, seniors and other qualifying individuals). If you have never had an Amazon Prime membership, Amazon offers a 30-day free trial for first-time subscribers.

On Amazon Prime Day in 2021, there were over two million deals across every category, including home, tech, fashion, appliances, furniture, beauty and travel. We expect many of the same and more deals will be available this year.

Teich says that the best deals tend to be in the tech and appliance categories. “While we don’t know exactly what will be on sale for Prime Day this year, last year’s sales showed steep savings on Apple products, including 20% off AirPods and $80 off Apple Watches; kitchen appliances, including Instant Pots and over 30% off air fryers; and cleaning appliances, including 20% off select Bissell products and 43% off Eufy robot vacuums,” she said.
